Public Government is Corrupt.
Frankly, we're shocked!
As reported in the St. Pete Times (the Herald was too busy licking TomAss to report on this...)
"Saying corruption is "pervasive at all levels of government,'' a statewide grand jury released a report Wednesday calling for reforms to combat "mismanagement and theft'' by public officials.
"Fraud, waste and abuse of state resources'' punishes taxpayers by driving up the cost of services, the panel said."
"The grand jury used the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to underscore the depth of the problem. In that agency, supervisors flagrantly circumvented purchasing rules, a practice that become common knowledge and prompted other employees to act unethically, the panel says.
"We were told employees would steal items such as flat screen televisions from the office. Depending upon the position of the employee, the supervisor often took no action," the report says. "Due to the unethical conduct at the supervisory level, a systemic acceptance of corruption was born."
Look no further than Miami Dade Transit.
In April 2009, a janitor sweeping Miami-Dade Transit's office made a startling discovery: In an empty cubicle on the 16th floor of the county's Overtown Transit Village complex, the cleaner found wads of cash totaling $9,863 and old checks for $14,772.
The former employee who had occupied the desk, Jeffrey Bechdel, helped run the county's seven-day Visitor Pass program, which sold weekly passes for bus and Metrorail. For 2 ½ years, before leaving Transit in January 2009, he stuffed the sale proceeds in his desk drawer. ``I'm a lousy bookkeeper,'' he later told police.
Police pegged possible losses at $120,000, but the staffer wasn't criminally charged. The reason: There was no evidence he stole, and investigators determined the agency was riddled with administrative flaws, including failing to create a system to deposit money from the pass sales.

ReplyDeleteAs long as there's politicians like Sarnoff who choose to enrich themselves at the taxpayers expense there will be no improvement to the quality of life for the average citizen of the city of Miami.
ReplyDeleteA word of advise to these crooked bastards who think that OUR tax dollars are THEIR piggy banks to give contracts to their friends, lobbyists and contributors...
"2011 IS NOT GOING TO BE A VERY GOOD YEAR FOR YOU, I CAN ASSURE YOU" !!!
The Feds should review the campaign reports and cross check with people who win government contracts...
ReplyDeleteThe feds should come here and just arrest everyone, starting with Burgess, Sarnoff, and Regalado.
ReplyDeleteLet's not forget how much money is being stolen each and every day via Medicare/ Entitlement fraud. Its a combination of these illegal business and thousands of residents who receive cash each and every month as long as they continue to file false claims for equipment and services. The way I see it is here in Miami-Dade its ok to steal federal tax money, and you ask yourself, these same people by and large also elect our local elected officals. Its criminals voteing and electing criminals, sounds very third worldish.....but it business as usual here in Miami Dade. Stealing is stealing and there can be no excuses offered or accepted.
ReplyDeleteThey should make that janitor mayor, probably the only honest county employee out of the whole lot.
ReplyDeleteIt's ok everyone, Mayor Regalado and Chief Exposito's public corruption unit is on the case.
ReplyDeleteI bet they are STILL looking for Manny Diaz' bike!
Is the City of Miami Public Corruption Unit trying to figure out how Mark Siffin got several 50 story billboards approved bypassing Federal, State, County and City regulations?
ReplyDeleteHow does Mayor Regalado try to protect his public image? He calls on a former Director's return who is well-respected before this Director goes public with incriminating information! He can't afford anymore negative publicity after what has been reported by the Miami Herald about Chief Exposito's letter blasting the Mayor!
ReplyDeleteSOMEBODY HAS BEEN ASKED TO COME BACK TO THE CITY OF MIAMI IN 2011!
What do you expect from a bunch of crazy Cubans. I guess we just have to wait for the Castro's to die off and hope at that time the people who don't want to take part in the real American dream can get the hell out of here. Outside of Miami and maybe one or two other cities most Americans could care less about Cuba. To all the Cuban-Americans who are first to tell everyone how proud they are to be Cuban first and American second even if they were born in America can all go to hell. Remember when there was no place to flee Cuba America and American's opened our doors and pocket books and gave you a place where you could experience the American dream. But it seems that was not good enough, because you all have created the mess we are in today. Look at Central and South America all you see are strong dictator type governments with little or no human rights. As a life long resident of Miami and married to a Cuban-American I wonder why the hispanic's have such a hard time governing themselfs, remember the little boy who came from Cuba and was being held captive until the US Govt attacked at dawn to remove the boy and send him back to his father. Oh, I forget the tire burning in the streets after the boy was sent home. If you find nothing wrong with the crazy Cuban-Americans actions, then you my friend should go back home, but you can't because you lost your country all by yourselfs and your still waiting for America to do your dirty work of remeoveing Castro from power after you let him destroy your country. You can run from your problems but you can't run away from your country after its destroyed by in-action on your part and expect everybody else to solve your problems because you dont have the guts to do the right thing these last fifty years or so. Look at the mess our Cuban-American political leaders have caused here in Miami, they run to Latin TV and Radio to exclude the non-latin vote to somehow re-create Cuba here in Miami.
ReplyDeleteReaders - read the Florida Grand Jury Report for yourself. It actually has several pages praising our Miami Ethics Commission model - what a joke! Did they write this report before the whole world found out about Bob Meyers, the ED - Ex. Director - chasing the seXretary around town and drinking on the job? It is quite telling that the office & person in charge of ETHICS is just as bad as the rest of the corrupt politicians! Rick Scott should come down to Ethics meeting on January 4 and hear all about how UNethical Miami's model of ethical corruption is! Then re-issue that grand jury report after they clean house in our sleazy backyard.
ReplyDeleteThis was just a month ago - lest you forget...here's your ethics czar defending having lunch and alcohol on YOUR tax dollars:

ReplyDeleteFrankly - I feel sorry for your Cuban-American wife, if this is the way you think.
I guess all Cubans are screwed up and crazy - and all Americans are holy and honorable. Like Bob Meyers, and Marc Sarnoff, and Larry Spring, and George Burgess, and Dorrin Rolle, and .... should I continue?
Maybe that's why the Anglos don't get out the vote and sit back and bitch. It's because we know how perfect Americans are.
Ain't that special.
When is Glenn Marcos coming back ?? He has the goods on Migoya and his cronies ... Bring him back and watch all the RATS abandons ship ... (Robertson, martinez, bravo, gomez, zimbabwe, et al) ....
